Call for Applications for the 2nd Edition of "Emerging Scenes in Africa"
The African Regional Council of the International Theatre Institute (CRAIIT) and the Ghana Centre of ITI are launching the second edition of "Emerging Scenes in Africa", which will take place from 23 to 30 September 2022 in Accra, Ghana.
This second edition will offer ten (10) training workshops which will be open to 100 professional participants, young practitioners, students, in the arts, both men and women.

German Centre of ITI | StayOnStay – Support in the Performing Arts
ITI – German Centre and Deutscher Bühnenverein (German Theatre and Orchestra Association) launched the online platform "StayOnStage" to support people who have fled war and violence and are looking for work or performance opportunities in exile. The website https://stayonstage.iti-germany.de lists job offers in the performing arts from all artistic, technical and administrative areas, with references to possible accommodation. Also listed are artist residencies, offers of guest performances, use of rehearsal rooms for performers, musicians and dancers, and other support opportunities. The offers are posted by the members of the German Theatre and Orchestra Association as well as the partner associations in Switzerland and Austria.
The ITI Germany Prize 2022 is awarded to Monika Gintersdorfer
Based on a selection decision made by the members of the German Centre of ITI theatre director Monika Gintersdorfer receives the ITI Germany Prize 2022. The award ceremony will take place on 25 June as part of the Politics of Invitation event series at the Forum Freies Theater (FFT) in Düsseldorf.
The ITI Germany Prize is an award to honour and support the work of transnational artists in theatre. The awardee is chosen by the members of ITI – German Centre in a selection process which is based on the recommendations from a jury. The jury consists of ITI members and members of the executive board of the German Centre and is composed annually. >>Click here to read the full press release.
German Centre of ITI: Annual Conference — Performing Arts & Equity
On May 7 and 8, 2022, the ITI Annual Conference was held in a special context: at the Theatertreffen and as part of the fourth edition of the Burning Issues conference. Global issues were brought into the discussion on structural changes in the German theatre landscape, and topics of the last ITI annual conference "Hybridity and Equality?" were perpetuated. n 2022, under the title "Performing Arts & Equity", the thematic focus opened up from equality to a more globally conceived justice and it was asked which sustainable changes enable a just theatre on and off stage. The recordings of the conference, such as the key note and panel discussion “I can’t believe I still have to protest this shit”, are online and can be viewed here.

Slovak Centre of ITI | Nová Dráma / New Drama Festival in Bratislava (Slovakia)
Arts Research Institute of Georgia (ARI), Georgia | Tbilisi Children and Youth International Theatre Festival
It will take place from 1 to 6 June. The programme includes indoor and outdoor performances for children, performed by children from different age groups. A special programme will be offered for refugee children from Ukraine, with round tables dedicated to the problems of Theatre and Youth/Children. There will be an international jury with members from Switzerland, Iran, Georgia, and a representative from ASSITEJ.

Shanghai Theatre Academy, China | Call for the 11th Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival
The application deadline is 15 July 2022.
It will take place from 17 to 23 October 2022. The 11th Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival will be co-hosted by Shanghai Theatre Academy STA and Yunnan Arts University.
The Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival was founded by the Shanghai Theatre Academy in 1998. It has developed into a regular biennial event after seven editions. This year the two universities decided to do a hybrid event, the way the last edition was held. The main activities include performances and an international academic symposium at the end of the event, both online and on-site. If the pandemic situation worsens, the Festival will be held online only.

The greatest happiness is to create works together – and this process lies in the hands of the director. When it happens, we speak of mastery. International Dance Day 2022 Online Celebration

The International Theatre Institute ITI is pleased to announce that the International Dance Day 2022 Online Celebration will happen on Friday, 29 April 2022 online, organized by the General Secretariat of ITI.
International Dance Day 2022, which will be the 40th Anniversary of the Day, the celebration will present one video from this year’s Message Author and five dance productions, each from one region (Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and Arab Countries). The aim of the celebration is to gather people together and show the world the beauty and diversity of dance art. All the videos of the dance productions will be seen on the official website of International Dance Day on 29 April.
Besides the online celebration, the South Korean Centre of ITI, together with the General Secretariat of ITI will also organize an on-site celebration in Seoul, South Korea.

Accademia Teatro Dimitri | 2nd Edition of Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Performing Arts Practice in Conflict Zones 2022
In a globalized world in which the consequences of violence, war and discrimination have become an integral part of our lives, politics is created with angst, demarcation and isolation determining everyday life. The CAS Performing Arts Practice in Conflict Zones offers an opportunity to open new spaces of reflection and action.
The CAS is developed in collaboration with the Swiss Center of ITI (International Theatre Institute). It is aimed at professional artists from Europe as well from Middle Eastern countries, for example Iraq, Syria, Afganistan who want to bring their performing arts practice in local and international conflict and crisis zones.

The Network member University of Regina, the Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre (C-SET) is thrilled to announce the launch of a dynamic new research webinar series under one of its research mandates: “Policing through the Arts: Connecting People and Communities.”
As part of the ongoing Canada Research Chair program in Socially Engaged Theatre, the Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre (C-SET) at the University of Regina invites to a series of research webinar that comprises of six sessions on policing, justice and theatre. This series is the first of three editions. This new initiative aligns with the objectives of the Canada Research Chair research program and seeks to create a space for respectful dialogue through community engagement.

World Theatre Day 60th Anniversary - World Theatre Day 2022 Online Celebration

The International Theatre Institute ITI is pleased to announce that the World Theatre Day 2022 main celebration will happen on 27 March 2022 online, organized by Centres and the General Secretariat of ITI. After being celebrated for 59 years, World Theatre Day will have its 60th Anniversary in 2022. From 1962 to today, 60 significant theatre figures contributed their thoughts on theatre, culture, and peace through World Theatre Day Messages.
This year, World Theatre Day celebration will focus on the young, the next generation, the emerging artists, who have been a strong special focus of ITI in the recent past. The presentations by the emerging artist can be in video or live performance in front of the camera. About Margarita FROMAN, Founder of Professional Zagreb Ballet
Croatian Centre of ITI is proud to present Dance Magazine Movements 35/36. This double issue of Movements 35/36 fully dedicates to Margarita FROMAN, ballet dancer, choreographer, director and ballet pedagogue.
The Dance Committee of the Croatian Centre ITI in 2020 organised a symposium ahead of the 100th anniversary of Margarita FROMAN's arrival in Zagreb. The selected, skilled experts from the field of history, theory and artistic practice of Croatian ballet, dance, folklore, music, visual art, theatre, and cinema answered the invitation and we were joined by two important guests from Belgrade, and the symposium took place in an intimate but open and quite inspiring atmosphere of an exchange of knowledge, opinion and personal archives.
Readers now have a collection of papers which sheds a critical light and multiply documents Margarita FROMAN’s artistic activity, as well as the complex time and context that befell her.

Ramendu Majumdar: Theatre Worldwide – My ITI Years
What the ITI Newsletter announced last year when Ramendu Majumdar celebrated his Birthday has “become true”: The Honorary President of ITI used the pandemic to write his ITI memoirs. Ramendu Majumdar tells us his own story. It gives us an insight into the development of the Bangladesh Centre of ITI – and ITI worldwide. It is proof of the personal perseverance he has experienced with ITI, which resulted in him becoming the President of ITI and gaining the title of Honorary President of ITI. The publication is a veritable cornucopia of facts and experiences of viewpoints through his times with the International Theatre Institute.

International Association of Theatre Critics – IATC
Presenting the Online Publication: Critical Stages / Scènes critiques
It is a pleasure to present to the readers of ITI, the online publication of the IATC with the title “Critical Stages / Scènes”. This web journal first published in 2009 is available online to the reader for free. It offers a platform for debate and exploration of a wide range of theatre and performance art manifestations from all over the world. The web journal was initiated by Kim Cheol-Yun, former president of IATC. In the first issue of Critical Stages, he states. “Critical Stages will reach out to theatre practitioners, audiences” and he confirms that Critical Stages broadly promote theatre criticism: “I firmly believe that the most important function of theatre criticism is—and should remain—to generate interest in the theatre arts in society.” Since 2015, the 11th edition, Savas Patsalidis from Greece is the Editor-in-Chief of Critical Stages. He is a Professor of Theatre Studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece. The article is about Destini Incrociati Festival, a successful four-day event which was organized from 17 to 20 November 2021 in Rome, Italy. The festival was organized with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, General Directorate for Performing Arts. It has been planned merging two editions this year, thanks to a special initiative that has allowed to make up for the time lost because of the pandemic.
The performances have been selected by a qualified artistic direction board. Some classic plays were staged at the Palladium Theater of the Roma Tre University.

Vijay Padaki is a Theatre Educator who has been part of the Bangalore Little Theatre since its inception in 1960. More recently, the Ministry of Culture invited Vijay to initiate a programme of Arts and Heritage Management in India. Vijay has written over 50 original plays. In 1993, Vijay won the award for the best contemporary play script instituted by The Hindu for the play Credit Titles.

The title of Honorary Member of the African Theatre Association is awarded to an outstanding individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of African theatre, performance or culture.

The United Nations have created a Toolkit called “Faith for Rights” that is of interest not only for those who work in the field of Human Rights but also for artists, namely performing artists. This toolkit builds on a wealth of comparable tools by several UN agencies that have been integrated into the #Faith4Rights toolkit. It also illustrates artistic expressions as learning tools and offers built-in links to relevant resources faith actors would need. The annex proposes several cases to debate, which illustrate the intersectionality of the 18 commitments and enhance the skills of faith actors to manage religious diversity in real-life situations towards the shared aims of “Faith for Rights”.

The General Secretariat of ITI has worked extensively to inform you about three main events of ITI: The General Assembly Special Edition (10 to 15 December 2020), World Theatre Day (27 March 2021) and International Dance Day (2021).

Culture|2030 Indicators was published by the Culture Sector of UNESCO on the occasion of the Forum of Ministers of Culture at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The Culture|2030 indicators is a framework of thematic indicators whose purpose is to measure and monitor the progress of culture’s enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, both as a sector of activity, and transversally across other sectors.

ITI General Secretariat Team Report 2017 - 2020
During the General Assembly Special Edition 2020, the Headquarters of ITI invited the ITI Centres, the ITI Committees, Forums and Networks and the Partner Organizations of ITI to present their past, current and future work. After the event, the Heaquarters of ITI put the individual videos and the videos day by day on the website www.iti-congress.org. Anyone can watch them on this website.
For time reason, the General Secretariat of ITI did not present its works. That is why it created the ITI General Secretariat Team Report 2017-2020. It is available in English and French.
